September 13, 2001 Keeping in TouchYou are receiving this special issue of Keeping in Touch because you registered with us to receive our SeniorS SuperStoreS newsletter. If you do not wish to continue to receive Keeping in Touch, the unsubscribe instructions appear at the end of the body of text. Because of this week's catastrophe in The United States, we won't be publishing our planned newsletter. Publishing will resume next week. Note that we said "The United States" because, even though New York City and Washington, DC were targeted, all of America was attacked. Truly, we are witnessing history first hand. Please take a short moment to give silence and say a prayer for the victims and their families of this tragic event. Our hearts go out to their loved ones. Let us hope that we can gather our forces and reinstate a sense of balance and order in this country. Let us also give our thoughts to the hope that these events will not precipitate further violence. Our hope is that the group responsible will be brought to justice and that the US, and the entire world, will have peace again shortly. Our sincere condolences go out to any of those in this community who have loved ones involved in the tragedy. We ran across an inspirational message within one of the online business communities to which we belong, and we want to pass it along to you. Regardless of your religious leanings and beliefs, we all look for inner strength to bear up to the stresses we face at this time. Maybe the following thoughts can help you and your friends and loved ones recover, strengthen, heal and grow. A 1994 book entitled "Spiritual Politics" has helped many people comprehend world events from a higher consciousness perspective. There is a website for the book, as well as some advice from the authors on what all of us can do right now to help each other. Please go to www.visionarylead.org/iando.htm and do what feels right for you. (Please forward this to everyone you know. You'll never know whom it may help.) We wonder what we can do? At times like this, we all feel a certain degree of helplessness. The response across America (and even around the world) has been to give blood, and we encourage this act of community spirit. But, volunteer organizations, such as the Red Cross, also need money to assist the injured and their families as well as the families of those who did not survive. If you feel inclined to donate by mail, you may do so at: The American Red Cross - Greater New York Or, to donate by telephone: Please call 1-877-Red-Cross (1-877-733-2767), ask for extension 2460. To let President Bush know that you support his leadership in this crisis, send him an email at: Our faith tell us that out of any tragedy eventually blooms hope, resolve and meaning. Times like this shock us out of our "fast fast, go go" consciousness, and firmly teach us what's really important: Friends. Family. Community. Peace. And, of course, love. Take time today to tell the people you love exactly how much you love them. If you're holding a grudge - release it and feel the new lightness that freedom brings. Most importantly, open your heart and help others. Even if you can't directly help the families and workers on the East Coast, assist someone near to you. It may be your closest friend or a distant stranger. Either way, in this time of tragedy, we can spread a message of hope and peace. Thanks for your loyal readership and friendship. We'll see you next week.
