1.) Where have we been?
Don't say you didn't even miss us! In case you did notice, we published only one Keeping in Touch in April, and that was a couple of weeks late. The problem was that our email server caught a virus! So, we had to quarantine the server, give it some medicine and then get the bug spray after the critter that spread the virus.

Now, we are back to normal (whatever that is for us) and we hope to catch up soon.

2.) Mother's Day Prelude

In case you didn't know, Mothers Day here in the USA is this Sunday, May 12. This is the day that we're expected to make that special effort to express to our mothers how much we appreciate what they've gone through for us and how much we love them.

Isn't it a sad sign of the times that we have to be reminded to show affection to our parents? To express our gratitude for the hardships they willingly endured to give us a better future? And to thank them for the blessings they bestowed upon us by teaching us the true values of life? Like love, respect, and the thousand and one other virtues that made us what we are today.

The Hollywood scenes of everyday endearment toward a parent are fine. But sometimes they just remind us that perhaps we didn't tell our parents often enough about how we really appreciated their love and understanding.

It's often not until after they're gone that we truly understand what they went through while we were in our younger days. The arrogance of youth can be such a hurtful thing, and we cringe when we think back to the days when we thought we knew everything about life, just because we had reached the teen years and had experienced a little of it.

But, our turn inevitably came around, and suddenly we saw our own children experiencing the same arrogance, frustrations and bewilderment, created by those unseen growth hormones surging through their bodies. And we wonder what we did to deserve that!

It's all part of the life cycle we experience as humans, but the most constant element in this life cycle is the sacrifice and love of our mothers. So, take more than just a moment this Sunday and express to your mother, if you're fortunate enough to still have her, how much you appreciate what she's done for you and what she means to you.

3.) Trouble with your eyesight?
How about this prayer for the ability to see a little differently?

God, Grant Me ...

God, Grant me the senility
To forget the people
I never liked anyway,
The good fortune
To run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight
To tell the difference.

4.) It's Beautiful Woman Month!!

Did you know that May is Beautiful Women Month?

~Beauty of a Woman~
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman
With passing years -- only grows.

An English professor wrote the words,
"Woman without her man is nothing,"
on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.
The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing."
The women wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is nothing."

The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF AGE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

5.) Now for a Humorous Look at Motherhood.

Putting aside the serious thoughts of Mother's Day, here's a light-hearted look at being a mother.

This is why there will be no more kids.......

Being a parent changes everything. But being a parent also changes with each baby. Here are some of the ways having a second and third child is different from having your first.

Your Clothes
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

Preparing for the Birth
1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your 8th month.

The Layette
1st baby: You pre-wash your newborn's clothes, color-coordinate them even.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries
1st baby: At the first sign of distress - a whimper, a frown-you pick up the baby.
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your 3-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Pacifier
1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until you can go home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with the baby's juice.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.

Diapering
1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every 2 to 3 hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.

Activities
1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, BabySwing, and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

Going Out
1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older child isn't hurting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Swallowing Coins
1st child: when first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the doctor.
2nd child: when 2nd child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for the coin to pass.
3rd child: when 3rd child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!!

Pass this on to everyone you know who has children... or everyone who KNOWS someone who has had children... or anyone who has ever been a child themselves! (Guess that covers almost everyone, huh?)

6.) Are you a lover of "Easy Listening" music?

Is there such a thing anymore as soothing, easy to listen to, calming music? We mean the kind of music that won't make your brain rattle! In case you haven't noticed, some of the music many of us grew up loving now is now difficult to find. Well, we found a source.

We now have available to you music from the National Geographic Series, such ageless favorites as Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Patsy Cline, The Beatles, and Elton John along with musical categories as romantic piano selections, "Ballets, Operas & Masterworks," as well as Broadway musicals, cinema piano collections, and popular movie themes. We looked long and hard to find a source of music such as this to enhance your lifestyle, and we now feature it in our Music department.
